About The Network

This Network aims to target safeguarding biosecurity and biosafety of public and private laboratories in North Africa. Thus, it will contribute to building risk awareness and Biorisk mitigation techniques related to biological agents and toxins, including laboratory infrastructure and other forms of biological capacity building assistance in Libya, Tunisia, and Morocco.

Objectives

Objectives of this network are:

  • To contribute to the development of more effective public health systems and biosafety/biosecurity measures in NA countries.
  • To build risk awareness and risk mitigation techniques in North Africa related to biological agents and toxins.
  • To reduce access to dangerous infectious agents and other materials of dual use
  • To develop and establish common protocols across partner countries linking guidelines and capacities to international standards and frameworks, including development of Terms of Reference.

Mission

The mission of our project is to safeguard the biosecurity and biosafety of public and private laboratories while activating Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) to effectively address health security threats. By implementing targeted projects, we aim to enhance risk awareness and develop risk mitigation techniques in North Africa concerning bioscience-related partnerships with malign actors.

Additionally, we strive to strengthen the capacity of the Government of Iraq (GOI) in preventing and responding to biological attacks by promoting awareness of biological threats and advocating for the adoption of threat mitigation best practices in governorates at risk of an ISIS resurgence.

Vision

Our vision is to create a secure and resilient environment within the target regions where the biosecurity and biosafety of public and private laboratories are effectively safeguarded. Through our projects, we seek to build risk awareness and mitigation techniques in North Africa, fostering partnerships that mitigate the potential risks associated with bioscience-related collaborations involving malign actors. Furthermore, we aim to empower the Government of Iraq (GOI) with the necessary tools and knowledge to prevent and respond to biological attacks.

By promoting awareness and facilitating the adoption of threat mitigation best practices, we envision a future where the target regions are well-prepared to address health security threats and ensure the safety and well-being of their populations.
